Description (last modified by juliandoucette)

Background

We would like to support the following social media networks across all websites:

  • Facebook
  • Twitter
  • Instagram
  • Linkedin
  • Google Plus
  • Quora
  • Snapchat
  • Reddit
  • Crunchbase
  • Xing
  • YouTube
  • Pintrest
  • Weibo
  • vk

What to change

  1. Determine the minimum fields necessary to support these social networks
  2. Provide a template that supports said fields in website-defaults

After researching each network on this list I've come up with the following resources (in order of priority):

  • google
    • relevant to all websites and google products
  • open graph
    • relevant for most social networks (twitter, linkedin, pintrest, vk, ...)
  • twitter
    • proprietary customizations
  • pintrest
    • proprietary verification
  • schema
    • supported by pintrest
    • supported by google
    • may be supported by others?

Replying to juliandoucette:

Scratch that. It looks like it's best to integrate these into page content itself via schemas; not metadata (except for company logo).

@juliandoucette

Also just to add we have deactivated our RenRen account - as that platform is dead.

Note: I have separated "standard meta data" from "social media meta data" and "blog/article meta data". This ticket only concerns "social media meta data".

  • Priority changed from P2 to P3

Lowering priority because I will push essential meta data to all websites before this change lands and can be used globally.
