Two windows opening in Firefox when link from external app opened

Environment

Mac OSX 10.10.4
Firefox 39.0
AdBlock Plus 2.6.10

How to reproduce

  1. Close Firefox
  2. Click on web link from external app (i.e. in an email message
  3. Firefox opens 2 separate windows - one with homepage, the other with page from link
  4. Disable AdBlock, close Firefox, click on link and only one window opens with page from link.

Observed behaviour

Enabling AdBlock in this environment causes 2 separate windows to open for clicked external links.

Expected behaviour

Only one window should open.
