installation woes - samsung galaxy tab 10.1

Description
Upon installation, I checked the network settings, and there was no proxy set. There was no "Waiting for traffic" type dialog. I end up finding the port number in online documentation. It displays the "ads are being blocked" notification as if nothing went wrong. Also, start at boot doesn't work.
- Am I missing configuration options? The online documentation is inconsistent with what I have.
I have for main options:
filtering toggle on/off
filter subscription refresh button only, with date of last refresh - installation auto sets easy, and it is unchangeable.
Acceptable ads check box
Hide icon check box
Advanced menu:
Start at boot check box
Subscription refresh, manual, at boot, periodically
Refresh over wifi only check box
On samsung galaxy tab 10.1, android 4.0.4 - not rooted.
Edit: Removed the proxy setting from network settings, and the proxy is working even through none is indicated in network settings. Ie. - toggle on/off actually does work, and the setting just isn't the visible on in network settings.
