#1554 closed defect (fixed)

large scale deployment navigation entry at adblock plus home page is confusingly named

Description

How to reproduce

  1. Go to https://adblockplus.org/

Observed behaviour

The footer navigation entry "Deployments" in the "Development" section links to https://adblockplus.org/en/deployments

Expected behaviour

As all other entries in that section refer to artefacts related to the actual Adblock Plus development, I would expect an entry being named "Deployments" to link to https://issues.adblockplus.org/roadmap while the page referring to large scale deployments is probably rather being expected under something like "For admins".

I would maybe re-name it to "Deployment", otherwise I think it's clear enough.

If you think "For Admins" would be more obvious, we can rename it & compare the visitors stats afterwards to see what the actual impact is.

Measuring the "correct" naming by the number of visitors might not be the best method, as I currently expect many non-admin users to visit the link, as they expect ABP-Development-related information, while the (in total numbers probably way fewer) actual admins cannot find the page with the current naming.

I think that this definitely belongs into "Resources," right under "Documentation" - assuming that we want to give this page a prominent spot in the footer at all. As to the naming "For admins" sounds right.

Visitor stats are indeed meaningless in this case, as we have no idea how many visitors were actually looking for this exact information as opposed to going there by mistake.

@trev: By moving the Large scale Deployments entry to the documentation section in the footer navi, we would have one section with 5 entries, whereas all the others have four.

From what I remember, the layout can handle five entries. Doesn't look quite as nice but balancing the piles isn't the main goal here, right?

Moving it under "resources" sounds good to me!

You can see the attachment how it will look like, in case of doubt.

Look good actually : 5-4-3 ... :D

comment:11 Changed on 11/11/2014 at 11:28:02 AM by philll

As suggested, we should rename it still.

comment:12 Changed on 11/11/2014 at 11:31:25 AM by saroyanm

Sure, so I think we agree and I can already implement that, please let me know if somebody has objection, I'll move the item under Documents in Resources section and rename it to "For admins", after no objections during an hour )

Just one last question, while we all agree to have "For admins" item pointing to "Large Scale Deployments" under "Documentation", should we still keep "Deployments" pointing to https://issues.adblockplus.org/roadmap ? If no objections I'll also make this changes.

comment:16 Changed on 11/11/2014 at 01:06:04 PM by simona

I think Deployments pointing to roadmap doenst make that much of sense, the rest is fine with me

comment:17 Changed on 11/11/2014 at 01:09:14 PM by saroyanm

Maybe we can name it to "Roadmap" @Phill what you think ?

comment:18 Changed on 11/11/2014 at 01:19:49 PM by simona

You can also re-direct "More about the project" here: https://adblockplus.org/forum/viewforum.php?f=21

Not sure if roadmap needs to be on adblockplus.org

comment:19 Changed on 11/11/2014 at 04:10:17 PM by trev

No, we definitely shouldn't link to the roadmap, I don't think @philll really suggested doing that.

comment:20 Changed on 11/12/2014 at 07:38:13 AM by philll

Nope. I never really did. We already link to what we currently call roadmap and we should not further confuse people.

Updated, seams like again serverside caching shows old footer for not logged in users, I guess will be updated soon.
