Description
Background
We want to protect the servers and network equipment in the server room from power failures.
What to change
- Install UPS hardware, connect power cords to all equipment
- Connect the UPS's monitoring network port to secure subnet switch
- Install control software on xen1 to automatically shutdown all VMs and itself when the UPS battery runs out of power
- Include the UPS power state in a (new?) Office-IT monitoring system (Nagios/Check_MK/Spiceworks?)

For step 3 I installed the nut package included in Ubuntu and configured it to use the netxml-ups driver to talk to the UPS network card.
To complete this step, the shutdown procedure must be tested during an announced maintenance window outside of business hours.

Shutdown procedure has been succesfully tested (see https://issues.adblockplus.org/ticket/2929 for details).
