Description

Background

We encountered a UX issue when users upgrade from a non-content blocker enabled SBrowser to the latest version. The browser needs to be started once after updating it. Otherwise our dialogue that opens the SBrowser content blocker settings is non functional, as the browser needs to scan for content blockers first and otherwise does not enable the content blocker functionality.

What to change

Our solution to this issue would be, to add a hint, telling the user to start SBrowser after updating, to the existing 'Update your browser' dialogue. The text currently looks like this:

Before you can use Adblock Plus, you must update to Samsung Internet Browser 4.0.

After installing the update for Samsung Internet Browser, relaunch Adblock Plus to finish.

In my opinion, adding this hint to the second paragraph would be our best option here. Input for possibly wordings is highly appreciated.

Please find 3 possible versions of new text via this linkhttps://docs.google.com/a/adblockplus.org/document/d/1bwndetqyJtpfmI0M0-Ugn-ZjXZjQd9xkLpXKtZG5smU/edit?usp=sharing.

Feel free to revise them and find the one that you think would fit the best.

Suggestion:

Before you can use Adblock Plus, you must *first* update to Samsung Internet Browser 4.0.

*Then,* after updating your Samsung Internet Browser, relaunch Adblock Plus to finish *the installation process*.

Thoughts?

Hey Aaron, thanks for your suggestion. The idea for the new text is to ask users to launch their browser at least once before returning to Adblock Plus, otherwise the app cannot be configured successfully. Please take a look at the link in comment 1 and feel free to revise those 3 possible versions of new text.

How about this (based on Version 2):

Before you can use Adblock Plus, you must first update to Samsung Internet Browser 4.0.

Tap "Get update" to update Samsung Internet Browser now. After the download is complete, tap "Open." Then, relaunch Adblock Plus to finish the installation.

As fas as I remember, the user actually needs to click through the first run pages after opening the browser. In that case we probably want to remind users to do that. I'll double check it tomorrow (do not have a android device with me :/ )

Hi Aaron, I double checked, it is fine if the user just launch but doesn't go through the first-run pages. So let's use the new text you suggested here.

The correct new text appears when the user needs to update Samsung Internet.

Before you can use Adblock Plus, you must first update to Samsung Internet Browser 4.0.

Tap "Get update" to update Samsung Internet Browser now. After the download is complete, tap "Open." Then, relaunch Adblock Plus to finish the installation.
