Slow - Firefox & Chromium in Linux-Mint 13 on emachine and Dell

Description
Linux-Mint Mate 13, 64 bit on both an emachine and a Dell with Firefox 28 and Chromium 33.0.1750.152 with AB 1.7.4 ... with default list Easyboy if I remember right.
When more than one tab is opened, all pages slow when loading; facebook, youtube, local news, national news, everything unless they have few or no ads.
Slowing and along with the usual loading notices, "Waiting for Ad Blocker ...". All we have to do is disable AB and full speed returns.
Umm, faster action!

Apparently, I cannot really reproduce your issue. There of course is a bit of a slowdown when adding functionality like adblocking on the client side, but in all of my test environments, the additional time needed is close to unnoticable.
Did you use ABP 1.7.4 or one of the development versions for Chrome, which have some subversion afterwards? If yes, which exact version?
With "Easyboy" list, I guess you meant Easylist?
Which ABP version did you use in Firefox?
